How to reach Lefkas Island
By air:
Lefkas (or Lefkada) Island does not have an airport. However, the International Airport of Aktio, in Preveza, abstains only 20 kilometers from the city of Lefkas. The airport is accessible by bus or by taxi. There are daily flights that connect Athens International Airport Eleytherios Venizelos, to Aktio and the flight lasts 45 minutes. Aktio airport is connected also to Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, and Sitia, in Crete. During the high tourist period, from April to October, there are also charter flights, which connect Aktio to various European countries: England, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. If you book the ticket in advance, you can find particularly low prices. From Aktio airport you can rent a car, take a taxi or the coach-bus (KTEL) and arrive at Lefkada.
By car or KTEL coach:
The distance from Athens is around 385 kilometers. You can reach Lefkas by your own car, via the bridge that connects Lefkas island with land (Etoloakarnania), without having to transport your car with a ferry boat. Alternatively, if you do not want to drive, you can reach Lefkas by coach bus, KTEL, which offers various scheduled departures from big Greek cities like Athens, Thessalonica, Patras, Giannena. From Athens, coach service is daily and the travel lasts about 5 hours, while the bus-connection to Thessalonica is 2 times per week and the travel lasts 7 hours. The sub-marine tunnel Preveza-Aktio and the bridge Rio-Antirio have facilitated a lot the access to the island of Lefkas. The KTEL coach, also, offers you the opportunity to get a great elevated view of the Greek countryside and the ticket cost is about around 45 Euro with return (WWW.KTEL-LEFKADA.GR).
